Illness Can Equal Poverty.

I touch on this subject from time to time because most of you know by now that I have a chronic illness.  I have been sick for a very long time and people sometimes don't understand what you go through.

Since this blog touches on the subject of saving money, I had to speak on this subject about how illness can equal poverty.

Over the years, I have seen many people who have great careers and they seem to be on top of the world and all of a sudden an illness will compromise their well-being.

It is something very personal that can throw you into a world of uncertainty. At this point, you may not be able to do the same kind of work that you did in the past.

Bills are due and you may have small children that you are responsible for. There is a chance that you may not be able to ever work again and this is the scenario that is very troubling.

I have actually seen people who have lost everything because they are so sick.  At this point, life presents a picture that is very bleak.  It is very easy for depression to take hold of you and you are ready to give up because you don't know what else to do.

There are some services available to people who are disabled but there aren't enough and they just provide the bare minimum.

We deal with being chastised, belittled, and judged on a lifestyle that we didn't ask for.  Your children also may not understand fully what is going on and they may act out because of the misfortune that has severely impacted your family.

There isn't any real prediction that one day you will be sick and disabled.  Poverty takes place because if you are sick, you can not continue to build up your resume, to get a higher-paying job.

Family can be helpful but sometimes they can scoff and talk negatively behind your back.  We sometimes deal with a state of loneliness that only another sick person knows.

We have a tendency to smile through our pain, so we don't have to constantly talk about being sick.

I pray that one day, someone will take an active stand against the mistreatment of the disabled and also put some new laws into effect that will help the disabled live a good lifestyle without being impoverished because illness shouldn't equal poverty.

Earning prestige on your own merit.

Award Prize Ribbon Winner Win Competition
I have touched on this subject before because there are some people in this world who are looking for hand-outs or looking for the magic carpet to instantly appear out of nowhere.  You can learn a lot by putting in your own hard work.

I remember Wendy Williams was talking to someone in her audience and she mentioned about the days when you lived in your first apartment and had mice or other pests in your the home and you toughened up and made it work out.

Let me go back and tell you about my very first apartment.  It was in a town where I had never lived and an apartment manager had taken me to another apartment first.  This apartment was so dingy, I cried. (really I did!)  I had never been on my own, and I was determined, but the vision that I had in my mind was not this one.

I dreamed of a fully furnished apartment in the nice part of town, and everything was bright and beautiful, and I could just see myself entertaining my friends and enjoying my life.  Sad to say that this was not my reality.

My reality at that time was ragged flooring, walls that desperately needed to be painted, and mice and other pests.  There was definitely drug selling and other things being sold in this neighborhood.

I could not imagine the beauty that could be created. Now I see a lot of ladies on Youtube showing how to make a less-than-perfect apartment beautiful, and it is really inspiring.

We didn't have Youtube at that time but we all had that aunt who could create a palace out of a not-so-beautiful apartment.  This experience was a hard pill to swallow because it wasn't my dream but I have to say that this experience changed me.

It changed the way I saw things and my perception.  It taught me how to be creative and appreciate the work that I had to put in and also the young lady who thought that she couldn't make it on her own. Made it!

It was hard but it showed me how to make some serious choices.  That is the key, choices because if you do not change the way you think, your outlook will remain very bleak.

I can never forget those days when I had to stretch the orange juice by adding more water to it and the days that I ran out of my favorite floor cleaner and the day when my old car finally stopped running and I knew that I would have to rely on public transportation at that point.

I didn't turn into this frugal queen by accident; I had to struggle.  The tools were always there but it was not something that someone could tell me or rescue me, it was life and life humbled this scared young lady.  I now know that I can make it no matter what.  If I can make it, you too!

To Wear Makeup Or Not To Wear Makeup (Commentary)

There has been a great debate regarding makeup since Alicia Keys decided that she will not wear makeup and she is sporting a more natural look.  Alicia Keys is a beautiful woman and she definitely can make that choice because she doesn't have any notable flaws.  I am sure that a lot of women will follow her lead and she is just showing young girls that they can be comfortable in their own skin.

Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder and during my twenties, I didn't wear makeup.  My skin was nice and clear and I saw no reason to be made up.  I was struck by illnesses and still, I did not wear makeup.  Fast forward eight years, my neighbor knocked on my door.  She wanted to borrow some bottled water.  She looked at me kind of strange and she said, " are you feeling okay?"  I told her that I had been very sick and then she went back to her apartment.  Next time I saw her she said, " when you are sick, you should put on a little makeup because if you look in the mirror and you look sick it will kill your spirit"  Honestly, I thought she was throwing shade but I looked at myself in the mirror and I had deep circles around my eyes and I really did look sick.

I watched some Youtube videos so I could learn how to apply makeup and a whole new world opened up to me.  I saw myself in a whole new light and it restored some of the happiness that I had lost due to being ill.  When I am feeling my worst I apply some foundation and do my eyebrows and I feel good about myself.   My point is, everyone, do not have the same story and if your skin is in good shape and you have no blemishes or scars, it is good not to wear makeup but for ladies who are suffering from skin diseases or perhaps have deep scars, makeup can be good for your self-esteem.

I have never been a person who jumps on bandwagons and I do what makes me happy. If my health returns to a healthy state, maybe I will wear little or no makeup but until then, I will enjoy the blessings that makeup has given me.

What To Do When Someone Steals Your Ideas

What To Do When Someone Steals Your Ideas:
We have all encountered this situation when we have conversations with someone and they pick your brain to get your opinion.

I am a firm believer in sharing ideas but sometimes people do not want to do the work needed to find the solutions themselves.

All over the Internet, you will see where someone has copied your post or ideas word for word and it is something that really upsets me.  I understand that people have similar ideas and that is not a problem for me but outright stealing is something else.

I feel that people want a free ride and they want to profit or get credit for your art or work.

There are things that you can do to combat this problem.

  1. Always copyright your work.
  2. If you see your work or ideas on another website without your permission, ask the person or site to remove this information off their website.
  3. Contact a Lawyer.
  4. Be careful who you tell your ideas and dreams to.
  5. Put a Disclaimer on your site explaining what will happen if your work is stolen
}; (function(d, t) {var s = d.createElement(t); s.type = 'text/javascript';s.async = true; s.src = '//clickcdn.sovrn.com/api/sovrncm.js'; var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0]; r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r); }(document, 'script'));
